Legacy

Tom’s Legacy

Tom was a loyal, caring, sharing sort of guy.

If he was out with his mates, and he had two Rolo’s, he’d give them both away. You know that….. especially Tom’s family and his closest friends, the people he did sports with, the people he studied with and the people he worked with. Tom was kind and loving.

Tom knew how lucky he was. He wanted a fairer society. Tom was on a journey of discovery about what fairness meant and how he could achieve it. In Tom’s mind this was simple. Become a billionaire. Then give half of it away. This is such a ‘Tom’ way of thinking, as many of you will know.

Tom often reminded his parents to do more for charitable causes. He often asked about what they were doing and took a fleeting interest (you know Tom…. always moving on to the next thing) in the causes his parents supported.

This page sets out some of the things Tom wanted his family to do, as well and some of the things Tom would have wanted his family to do to help others.

Gifts to Family and Friends

Despite giving the impression Tom blew his entire wage packet the day he got it, Tom had been saving hard for Uni’. He worked full time for over two years and part-time for three years before that. And he had a little life insurance cover through his employment at Waitrose.

As Tom was loyal to his friends and family, he would want the people he spent most time with to benefit from his hard work and savings. As a result of knowing his wish for his savings, Tom’s family have shared Tom’s savings amongst several of his family and friends.

Tom would hope this small gesture allows some of his loved ones have some fun at some point in the future. Tom was full of fun. That’s want he’d want for his family and friends.

Essex and Herts. Air Ambulance Trust (EHAAT) / East Anglia Air Ambulance (EAAA)

Tom was attended by EHAAT. They did their very best to help Tom, but regrettably his injuries were too serious.

Tom’s sister, Maddy, led fund-raising efforts, having learnt first hand of the good work all air ambulance crews and their support teams do.

Through Maddy’s hard work and the kind donations of many of you, over £30,000 has been raised for these two air ambulance trusts. With each mission costing about £2,300, the amount raised will fund more than a dozen missions. That’s a dozen people who have a change of life. And a dozen families who have a chance to hope. Air ambulance crews save lives. Your donations help them do so.

Your kind donations mean so much, not only to us as part of Tom’s legacy, but to the many victims and their families who air ambulance organisations help. Thank you.

Emocien Limited

Emocien is a start-up, health-tech’, mental health App-based business. It has been set up to help people like Tom; people wishing to more effectively manage their neurodiversity or mental health issues. Tom had ADHD. He faced many of the challenges people who are neurodiverse or people who have poor mental health face: whether to get diagnosed; if diagnosed, how to determine the best support; whether to take medication; whether to tell an employer. Managing neurodiversity and mental health is not straight forward. The founders of Emocien – Tom’s family and his mates – wanted to help people manage their mental health more effectively. They also wanted to help employers support neurodiverse employees and employees with poor mental health more effectively. Emocien is in development. It will launch in mid-2024. Emocien is very much part of Tom’s legacy.
