Terms of Use

This website is a ‘members only’ community.

  • Membership is free.
  • Membership is offered to Tom’s family and friends, including those people who knew Tom through schools and colleges, sports clubs, the gaming community, workplaces and elsewhere.
  • This site is for adults and children. Content must be appropriate to all ages. Posts that Ian and Clare Bye deem are not suitable will be summarily deleted. Please be respectful and sensitive at all times.
  • The reason is it a ‘members only’ site as there must be some level of control over who can access content – who can send messages, who can upload, who can download and so on. Membership provides for a level of control, for both website members (eg. Tom’s friends) and website administrators (Tom’s parents). We do not wish this website to be accessible to the general public – they will be able to ‘view only’.
  • We very much hope all Tom’s family and friends become members, sharing content and participating in this online aspect of Tom’s legacy.
  • This website has been designed to allow Tom’s family and friends to remember Tom, providing a safe place where they can share memories, stories, photos and videos of Tom (‘safe’ meaning a ‘user-controlled’ environment; you are in control of your profile and content).
  • None of us knew everything about Tom. Learning about Tom is a way for some people to feel closer to him. Sharing content allows others to better understand Tom, the man he was and his life. Hearing of what other people thought of Tom, what they did with Tom, and what they were planning to do with Tom, can provide others with a better understanding of Tom, what he was up to, who with, when and where, all of which others might like to learn about.
  • By becoming a member, you will hopefully gain, as well as give, comfort. Processing Tom’s passing can be incredibly difficult. This site is intended to help people come to terms with losing Tom by providing all members with a compendium that reflects the very many aspects of Tom’s life.
  • By sharing, each of us provides other members with insights into our own unique relationship with Tom and our own unique understanding of him. By sharing, we may help each other come to terms with losing Tom, providing each other with comfort.
  • When setting up your profile, you will only be asked to provide very basic personal information, limited to just: your real name, a user name and an e mail address. You will not be asked for details such as: telephone number; address; bank or credit card details. If you are ever asked for these details in connection with this website, assume it is a scam.
  • You will be able to choose your profile name. This name does not need to be your real name. You can choose a user name that you feel is most appropriate for you (eg. maybe a nickname).
  • Importantly, members can control the visibility of their profile, so it is:
  • Visible to nobody – totally anonymous
  • Visible to other members of Tom’s website, but not visible to the public
  • Visible to the public, as well as other website members

You can, of course, make your profile anonymous in two ways:

  • Make your profile anonymous, so hidden for everyone
  • Make your profile visible to others, but have a user name that keeps your real identity hidden

Members can also control the visibility of their profile as it relates to each post. Before submitting each post, you will be asked to state who you wish to be able to see your post, as well as your profile (you will be asked this for each and every post you make):

  • Visible to nobody – only you can see it *
  • Visible to other members of Tom’s website, but not visible to the public
  • Visible to the public, as well as other website members

*     We fully respect the need some people may have to write to tom privately, with nobody else (not even website administrators) able to view these personal and private messages. You will be able to send private messages that nobody else can see, with these messages remaining private and strictly between you and Tom.

You will have control of the visibility of your profile, as well as the visibility of each and every post you make.

For example, you can set your profile so it is visible to other site members but not to the public, but then you can choose to make a post totally anonymous. Or vice verse – you can have an anonymous profile, but share your profile with other site members as your profile relates to just one post.

Finally, the website will allow for notifications to be sent to members. The notifications feature will be optional. For example, when you post a message or upload a photo, you will be able to choose if a notification e mail is sent to other members alerting them to your post. Notifications are intended to stimulate interest, spark replies, and very much keep Tom’s memory alive. It is hoped this notification feature is often used.

Simply put, you will have full control of the visibility of your profile, of each and every post, and of post notifications.

  • You can delete your profile and any of your posts at any time.
  • Once you delete your profile, you will need to reapply for membership.
  • Membership is controlled by Ian and Clare Bye, who have the sole and absolute discretion to grant or deny membership.
  • Membership may take several weeks to process. Please forgive any apparent delay.
